The Best Thank-You Is Not Always in December
December gets most of the attention in corporate gifting, and for good reason. But sometimes the most memorable thank-you is the one nobody is expecting.
A project wrapped up successfully in March? That can be a gifting moment. A client hit an important milestone? A gifting moment. An employee went far beyond what was expected? Definitely a gifting moment. Someone made an introduction that turned into a great new relationship? Another one.
Why unexpected recognition lands harder
Calendar-driven recognition, however generous, reads partly as obligation. It says “it is that time of year.”
Unexpected recognition says something different: you noticed something specific, and you cared enough to acknowledge it. That is personal. It is also rarer, which makes it stick.
A short list of moments worth marking
The close of a big project. A renewal or expansion from a long-standing client. A promotion or work anniversary. A team that carried a hard quarter. A partner who sent you a great referral. A customer who gave you a second chance and it went well.
None of these have a greeting-card season. All of them mean more for being acknowledged when they happen.
Holiday gifting matters. But appreciation does not need a holiday. Keep a running note of recognition moments as they happen during the year; when one of them deserves more than an email, you will already have the list.
